Overdale is an outstanding base for students, offering intensive training for working pupils from two weeks to one year, with nearby accommodation, daily coaching, and the opportunity to bring your own horse.
Many pupils come back again and again to enjoy the friendly Overdale expertise.
Intensive riding courses are also available. Why not make a holiday of it, stay in the village and see the local area as well.
Student Supervision Programme / Work Experience
We currently have place(s) available from November 2010 onwards. As we are a small yard, it is only practical to take one student at a time. This ensures individual attention and our ability to tailor our training to your specific needs.
Your role would be to assist on the yard with jobs such as catching, feeding, mucking out, poo-picking, grooming, tacking up and general yard maintenance. In return we provide accommodation, meals, a lesson (ridden, theory, simulator or Feldenkrais) and/or a practice ride for each day you work. Students usually work 5 or 6 days per week and may have the option to do some hourly paid freelance work on top of this (dependant on work load and ability). Some students also bring their own horse, for which grazing/stabling is provided. Some use of cars is usually available for those without their own transport who hold a valid driving licence, otherwise we have a bicycle.
Usually the minimum period is 4 weeks, although occasionally a period of 2 weeks becomes available. I request a small training fee of £10 per week (to max £150) as a commitment to the agreement. For students on work experience from a college/university the fee is waived, but a deposit of the same amount is requested and then refunded on completion of your time with us.
